Karen Batten-Balas is the Senior Vice President of Construction, responsible for construction production and performance in the Mid-Atlantic and South East regions. She has been in the multi-family industry for more than 27 years and has been involved with the construction management and development of more than 10,000 apartment, condo and hotel units.
Before joining Wood Partners, she worked for SAE Pinkerton & Laws, a Georgia General Contractor, as a Project Engineer on various multifamily and renovation projects. In 1993, Batten-Balas joined Trammell Crow Residential as a Project Manager and subsequently became a Senior Project Manager. While at TCR she was responsible for construction management of multiple projects in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. She joined Wood Partners in 1998. Batten-Balas began her construction career in 1984 with Stokes & Company, a Florida real estate development company, working as a Project Manager/Estimator on various light commercial projects, multifamily projects, golf course facilities and custom home projects throughout Florida and Texas. She also served in a design capacity for in-house commercial and single family custom home designs.
Batten-Balas holds a bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology from the University of North Florida with minors in Interior Design and Marketing from Florida State University. She also holds General Contracting Licensure in North Carolina and Florida.
