Wood Partners Opens Domain by Alta Providing Stylish Distinctive Apartment Homes in Downtown Oakland

Thursday, 13 October 2011

OAKLAND, Calif.  – DATE – Domain by Alta is now open for lease, culminating a remarkable turnaround project in downtown Oakland that provides urban residents with stylish and distinctive apartment homes combining contemporary amenities with city-center convenience.

Wood Partners and 7x7 Magazine is sponsoring the grand opening event scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5pm to 8:30pm to celebrate Oakland’s newest luxury apartment community located in the heart of downtown at 1389 Jefferson St.

Domain by Alta was acquired by Wood Partners two years ago when it was little more than a steel frame partially covered in plastic sheeting. Then known as Oakland City Walk, the project had been abandoned in 2007, but Wood Partners, one of the top five multifamily developers in the nation, realized its potential and assembled the financing to purchase and revive the project as part of the city’s 10K Housing Program designed to bring 10,000 new residents to downtown Oakland.

“Completion of the project has removed the derelict, half-constructed building and replaced it with new market rate housing. This removed significant blight from the downtown and less than two blocks from City Hall,” said Patrick Lane, redevelopment manager for the downtown, north and west Oakland.

The $55 million development, located at 1307 Jefferson St., features 264 apartment homes as well as street-level retail space in four six-story buildings.

Residents may choose from among studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units as well as 25 live-work lofts. Monthly rents range from $1,495 to $3,750.

XX of the units already are leased.

“Domain at Alta is quite different from anything currently on the market. We’ve tailored our community to an area where young professionals live, work and play and designed it to incorporate the distinct lifestyle amenities they require, from fitness to gourmet cooking to high tech,”  said Frank Middleton, western regional director for Wood Partners. “It’s a vibrant development in a dynamic neighborhood.”

Each home features premium materials and finishes, stainless steel appliances, full-size washers and dryers, granite countertops and walk-in closets. Most homes will feature premium plank flooring and many will have floor-to-ceiling glass.

Residents will have access to one of the Bay Area’s largest 24/7 fitness centers, a Serenity Studio designed specifically for yoga, a bicycle workshop, outdoor fireplace, wi-fi enabled Connect Café, gated parking, an art gallery featuring a revolving display from local artists and valet door-to-door trash and recycling services.

Guests and colleagues can be entertained on a dazzling outdoor terrace complemented by a professional grade kitchen.

Domain by Alta’s entertainment and dining neighbors include Café Van Kleef, the Fox Theater, B Restaurant, Hibiscus, Luka’s Tap Room and Lounge and Tamarindo.
