Strong Foundation

In little more than a decade, Atlanta-based Wood Partners has become one of the largest and most progressive multi-family investment firms in the nation. The company’s rapid rise owes to a strong foundation.

The company was established by Leonard Wood, along with partners Jerry Durkin and Jim Simpson, in 1998. Longtime friends and colleagues at Trammell Crow Residential, these three executives hoped to create a company that redefined apartment development. From a product standpoint, that meant building communities of lasting value through inspired design, attention to detail and never cutting corners. In terms of the company’s internal culture, it meant that responsibility and success would be shared. To this day, employees at all levels remark on the strength of the company’s entrepreneurial spirit.

As Wood Partners looks to the future, the vision outlined by Wood, Durkin and Simpson in 1998 is more relevant than ever. With an economy still trying to regain its footing and a greatly altered financial landscape, the challenges are numerous. Even so, Wood Partners is positioned to make the most of new opportunities.

In 2009, the firm successfully launched acquisition and property management platforms to strengthen its strategic position, diversify its revenue sources and more aggressively build its portfolio. In 2010, it again put shovels in the dirt and started eight new development projects across the country.  By the end of 2011, the company had started another 16 projects for a total of 3,732 units nationwide and expects to start 6,200 units in 2012.  Wood Partners is back on offense and ready to reassert its role as a leader in the multifamily industry.
