The region ranks consistently as one of the top job creation markets in the country. With more than three million payroll jobs, the D.C.  Metro area is the fourth largest metropolis in the United States, behind New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. The federal government, which generates about one-third of those jobs, provides a stable economic base for the region that mutes market cycles and decreases volatility.

Given the transient nature of the government workforce, predominantly composed of strong wage earners, the region is home to a large number of renters by choice – and that bodes well for the multifamily market.
